OneWorld Spotlight: Jamila Stovall

Certified Nurse Midwife Jamila Stovall, MSN, APRN-CNM, joined OneWorld in 2024, following a career shift from nursing to midwifery. Having completed additional education and then interviewing at OneWorld, she knew she was in the right place to provide quality care to vulnerable and underserved populations in Omaha.

“I absolutely love and admire the patients I am fortunate to care for and meet every day,” Jamila said. “My favorite parts of my role are the relationships I get to build with patients throughout their pregnancies and how much I learn and grow as a result of these encounters. I’m inspired every day when I see that I am surrounded by coworkers and other providers who have a genuine love for the work they do as well as for one another.”

Jamila earned her master’s degree in midwifery from Frontier Nursing University in 2024; the same year, she earned certifications from the American Midwifery Certification Board and in Electronic Fetal Monitoring. She previously earned bachelor’s degrees in biology from Creighton University and in nursing from University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Her nursing career began in 2017 on a medical/surgical/telemetry floor at Nebraska Medicine. Then, after moving to Texas by way of Kansas City, Mo., Jamila delved into her passion for women’s health. She began work as a nurse on an antepartum/postpartum unit at one of the country’s largest and busiest public hospitals, where she ultimately solidified her decision to continue her education and become a midwife. She continued to work as a women’s health nurse while completing her midwifery education.

One of the best pieces of advice Jamila has received is the reminder that, “If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far go together.” In her work at OneWorld, she aims to discover the steps she can take as a provider to help decrease health disparities and maternal mortality rates in people of color, specifically African American women.

In her time outside of work, Jamila said it might surprise others to know she’s an introvert and quite reserved. Yet she keeps busy: When she’s not spending quality time with her three children and mini Bernedoodle, she gets crafty. Jamila loves painting, replicating crafts and projects from Pinterest and taking on home improvement projects. Next up? She hopes to learn more about larger house projects, like putting up drywall and kitchen renovations.
