Medication Assistance Treatment
The Medication Assistance Treatment (MAT) program combines behavioral health therapy with medications to treat substance use disorders.
Program Goal
We want each patient using MAT to make a full recovery and to live an empowered, self-directed life.
Treatment Overview
We primarily use MAT to treat people who are addicted to opioids like heroin and prescription pain relievers. MAT can also be used to treat people with alcohol use disorders and smoking addictions.
Medication
We prescribe FDA-approved medications including Buprenorphine and Suboxone based on each patient’s individual needs. The prescribed medications act to block the euphoric effects of alcohol and opioids, relieve cravings and normalize body functions without the negative effects that accompany the abused drug.
Behavioral Health
Research shows that combining medication and behavioral health services can successfully treat substance use disorders and help sustain recovery. Different patients may need different types of behavioral health services.
Other Important Information
Before using MAT, tell your clinician if you are currently taking anxiety medications including derivatives of Benzodiazepine such as xanax or valium. Combining these medications used in MAT can be fatal.
