Dr. Alex Dworak earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Creighton University and completed his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He started working at OneWorld as a volunteer in the tuberculosis clinic in 1999. He joined the OneWorld Family Medicine Physician team after completing his Primary Care Program and Family Practice Program residency at UNMC.
During his time as a primary care physician at UNMC, Dr. Dworak served as an attending physician, provided obstetric care, assisted with hospital deliveries, trained in vasectomy and provided HIV management services. His scope of experience also includes treatment for alcohol use disorder, and he is a firm advocate for mental health.
He is currently one of the attending physicians for UNMC Family Medicine residents at OneWorld.
Dr. Dworak has advocated at the state-level for increased and continued access to health care for transgender youth. He has taken the initiative to become an expert in transgender health care through Continuing Medical Educations courses, and has completed an HIV Clinician Scholars program.
Dr. Dworak is a founding member of the Nebraska Infectious Disease Society and is a board member for the Nebraska AIDS Project.
OneWorld Highlights:
- Led the development of treatments, policies and protocols for LGBTQIA2S+, GNC and transgender patients.
- Helped establish PrEP HIV prevention services at OneWorld.
- Aided in adding newer direct-acting antivirals to OneWorld Hepatitis C patient treatment plans.
